Real Couple Q&A: Lauren and Brian
By The ThirstyNest Editors
This newly minted East Coast duo met back in the Bay Area and fell in love over glasses of smoky Mezcal and local Cali Pinot. Read on about their wine bar based courtship that lead to "ringing" in the New Year in more ways than one this past January.
1. So, tell us your meet cute story?
We met in February 2016 while Brian was manning the grill at his annual Super Bowl party. A mutual friend brought me along to Brian's and not long after the party, we reconnected when that same friend (our Cupid) hosted a small rooftop get-together.
Our first date was at a wine bar in San Francisco and from then on, hardly a day went by that we didn't see each other. We made a hobby of getting to know many of the city's wine bars, and also of planning trips to Napa. Living in San Francisco, the valley was always the perfect escape from city fog.
Last September, we made the move back east as Brian started business school. He popped the question at the end of December, giving us a lot to celebrate as we rang in the New Year.
2. What do you guys like to drink at home?
On the wine front, we're big fans of Pinot Noir (Tyler and Emeritus are two of our favorites).
If we're tapping into the bar cart, it's an Old Fashioned for Brian and anything with mezcal for Lauren.
3. What’s your most memorable imbibing experience together?
A few weeks after our first date, I invited Brian over for dinner. I hadn't given my roommates the heads up and our kitchen was in use... Luckily, my parents were also living in San Francisco and I had access to their kitchen for the night. I provided the chicken parmesan, and Brian brought a bottle of Fleury.
He had yet to meet my parents and I hadn't warned him that my mom might be coming home before the end of our date, until she opened the front door. We laugh now that I ambushed him with an early "here, meet my mom" moment, but it was a special end to the evening and it became very clear she approved not only of Brian, but also of his taste in wine!
4. What will be your Signature Drink for guests on your big day?
His: Old Fashioned
Hers: Spicy Mezcal Margarita
5. How did you decide on a wine and spirits registry?
It was somewhat impromptu. We were sitting at the bar of our favorite tapas spot a few months ago talking about items for our registry and we thought...how cool would it be if we could register for wine?! We took to Google and found ThirstyNest.
